People who have been in contact with the drive axle know that the drive axle is mainly composed of a final drive, a differential, a half shaft and a drive axle housing. Its function is to fold the power from the universal transmission through a 90° angle and change the force. After the main reducer reduces the speed and increases the torque, it is distributed to the left and right axles and the driving wheels through the differential. The drive axle is at the end of the power train and has four basic functions:
One is to transmit the engine torque from the universal transmission device to the driving wheels through the main reducer, differential, half shaft, etc., to reduce the speed and increase the torque;
The second is to change the torque transmission direction through the bevel gear of the main reducer;
The third is to realize the differential function of the wheels on both sides through the differential to ensure that the inner and outer wheels turn at different speeds;
The fourth is to realize the load-bearing and torque transmission functions through the bridge shell and wheels.
The structural types of drive axles are classified according to their working characteristics, which can be grouped into two categories, namely non-disconnected drive axles and disconnected drive axles. When the driving wheels adopt non-independent suspension, the non-disconnected drive axle should be used; when the driving wheels adopt the independent suspension, the disconnected drive axle should be used. Therefore, the former is also called non-independent suspension drive axle; the latter is called independent suspension drive axle. The independent suspension drive axle structure is more complicated, but it can greatly improve the ride comfort of the car on uneven roads.
